CAFM MEMBERSHIP FEES

Membership in AFOA

In order to maintain your CAFM designation, membership in good standing with AFOA is required.  If you allow your membership in AFOA to lapse, you cannot use your CAFM designation.

The Certificate is the property of the Association and only remains in your possession as long as you remain a Certified Member of AFOA in good standing. All CAFMs who are not a Certified Member in good standing will be required to return their certificates.

Membership Status

Active (member in good standing)

Is a member that pays a membership fee by the due date (March 31st ) and receives full membership privileges between January 31st to December 31st.  Since AFOA expects members to renew their membership, members receive full membership privileges until June 30th.

Suspended

If a member does not pay a membership fee by June 30th, the member will be suspended and loses membership privileges.  

Non-payment of dues by a member who is suspended, will be published in the Journal of Aboriginal Management and through other media, including public newspapers and the AFOA Canada website, as deemed appropriate by AFOA Canada.  

If a member pays a membership fee between the months of April and June, a late payment fee will be applied and the member becomes active again.

InActive

If a member has not paid for a membership fee between the months of July and September, the member becomes in-active and loses membership privileges.  If a member pays a membership fee within this timeframe, a re-instatement fee and late fee will be applied and the member becomes active again.

If a member has not paid for a membership fee between the months of October and December, the member remains in-active and loses membership privileges and the designation is revoked.  AFOA will issue a request to return their certificate.  If a member pays a membership fee within this timeframe, a re-admission package and fee will be applied and the member becomes active again.  A member can remain in-active no longer than 5 years from the original membership fee due date.

Penalty Fees

Late payment Fee (March 31st - June 30th)
When a member is suspended due to a late payment, the person must pay the following fees:
1.    pay the membership fee they were suspended for
2.    late fee of $30

Re-instatement Fee (July 1st - September 30th)
In order to become a re-instated member, the member must pay the following fees:
1.    pay the unpaid membership fee
2.    late fee of $30
3.    the reinstatement fee is $80

Re-admission Fee (October 1st - December 31st ) (and to a maximum of 5 yrs)
In order to become a re-admitted member, the member must complete a re-admission package and fee as follows:
1.    submit sponsor section in CAFM Application form
2.    pay the membership fee per year in arrears
3.    the late fee is $30
4.    reinstatement fee is $80
5.    a readmission fee is $80

Terminated

If a member has not paid for a membership fee after the 5 year mark of the original due date, the member is fully terminated.  If the terminated member wishes to become an active member again, they must re-submit a membership application and pay fee accordingly.

Re-Apply Fee

A person must re-submit a membership application form and pay fee accordingly after becoming terminated.

Membership withdrawals

Individuals who wish to voluntarily withdraw their certification must notify AFOA in writing and return their certificate.  Individuals can re-apply for the designation 5 years after their membership expiry date.

Voluntary membership withdrawals will be published in the Journal of Aboriginal Management and through other media, including public newspapers and the AFOA Canada website, as deemed appropriate by AFOA Canada.
