Certification Standards


The requirements for admission to Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager status are:

 1.
Completion of the Aboriginal Financial Management program requirements
 2. 
Minimum of two years full time practical work experience gained in an aboriginal financial management environment and verified by two sponsors, one which must be from an Aboriginal organization. Each sponsor must be from separate organizations.
 3. Successful completion of the professional exam
 4. Signed Agreement to abide by the Standards of Ethical Conduct

or

A member may apply for one of the following special arrangements for obtaining the Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager designation:

 1. 
   For AFOA members with a Certified General Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, or Chartered Accountant professional good standing.
   A.
 Meet the practical experience requirement of 2 years working in Aboriginal financial management.
   B.  Sign an agreement to abide by the Standards of Ethical Conduct.
     
 2.   For AFOA members with more than 5 years experience in aboriginal financial management.
   A.  Successful completion of the professional exam.
   B.  Sign an agreement to abide by the Standards of Ethical Conduct.

The following is additional information for members applying for the Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager professional designation through the special arrangement provision.

Special Arrangement A


Send in a letter requesting admission to the Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager membership status. Please include proof of your membership in good standing with the CICA, CGA or CMA. Send in a completed CAFM Application which includes a Record of Practical Work Experience form and an application-processing fee of $200 plus applicable taxes.

Special Arrangement B
Send in a letter requesting permission to challenge the Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager Examination. Send in a completed CAFM Application which includes a completed Record of Practical Work Experience form, an application processing fee of $200 plus applicable taxes, and the exam fee of $300 plus applicable taxes.
