Bio of Bernie Lodge, BA, MPA, CIA, CFE, CGA, CAFM


Bernie has over 40 years experience in the areas of capacity building (mentoring and teaching) and institutional strengthening (internal and performance audits).  He has worked in both the public sector and private sector consulting services.

In the public sector, Bernie has been a Regional Manager of Internal Audit within a large federal government department, an audit and compliance Advisor on international assignment, and Director of the Internal Audit Services Branch with a territorial government.  He initiated an Internal Audit function (drafting Charters, operations manuals, policies and procedures, and conducting staffing actions and training) in three different governmental organizations, namely within a federal government department which underwent major organizational re-engineering, a foreign government department (Guyana Revenue Authority, Government of Guyana, South America), and a Canadian Territorial Government (Government of Nunavut, Canada).

Within the private sector, Bernie has been engaged in advisory, consulting and teaching in the following areas:
a.  Designing and conducting performance (efficiency and effectiveness), ethics, and security (infrastructure) audit and review programs, among others;
b.  Conducting a “Quality Assessment Review” of the internal audit function of a major provincial Health Authority, to validate compliance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, as required by the Institute of Internal Auditors;
c.  Teaching various internal auditing topics such as ethics, accountability, transparency, control, risk management, and governance; and
d.  Designing and delivering training modules on client requested specialty audit topics such as Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Behavioural (soft) and Hard Controls, and Ethics.
