Eligibility Criteria

- Indigenous ancestry
- Current students (max. age of 19 as of February 1, 2025)
- Pursuing a post-secondary education related to finance, management, commerce or similar fields.
- Academically successful

Phase 1
Three youth will be awarded a trip to Halifax, NS for four days to attend an awards ceremony and the AFOA National Conference, February 25-27, 2025. Recipients will be introduced to career opportunities in finance, read their winning essays at a luncheon in their honour, participate in a special youth session designed to develop leadership skills and participate in many other social activities.
Students and Chaperones commit to:

- Arrive in Halifax on Monday, February 24, 2025 and depart on Friday, February 28, 2025 (travel, accommodation and meals will be covered for students/chaperones per Treasury Board Guidelines)
- Participate in the full Youth Program over the four days.
- Abide by Student and Chaperone regulations. All recipients must be accompanied by a suitable Chaperone (parent, teacher, legal guardian, or one approved by a parent or legal guardian)
- Deliver brief remarks (3-4 minutes) to conference delegates at special Youth Awards Luncheon.
- After the Conference, write a brief description of the experience which will be included in the next edition of AFOA Canada’s professional journal The Journal of Aboriginal Management (JAM).

Submission Requirements

- Proof of Indigenous ancestry
- Completed application form
- Completed essay that addresses each question
- 2 letters of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counsellor, etc., attesting to the student’s performance and commitment.
- A copy of the student’s most recent grades

Phase 2
This phase is for the award recipients only. Students become eligible for a continuous $1,000 scholarship up to a maximum of five years provided they:

- continue their studies in the financial management field (including financial management/planning, business administration, commerce, accounting and economics) and;
- maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 65% or higher throughout their post-secondary studies.

AFOA Canada and Nutrien have partnered together to award the scholarship and deliver the youth program. Successful students will be contacted by an individual from Indspire each year to confirm eligibility and provide the following information:

- Personal information and release of the consent form (provided by Indspire)
- Proof of acceptance and/or full-time enrollment at a post-secondary institution.
- Post-secondary transcripts that show a GPA of 65% or higher.
