Expertise in human resources is essential for the effective management of Indigenous communities and organizations. The Certified Indigenous Human Resources Professional (CIHRP) designation is designed to help our communities meet the growing need for human resources leadership tailored to Indigenous realities. CIHRPs are integral parts of a healthy community and organization.

How to Become a CIHRP

Specifically designed to set high quality competency standards and provide the learning opportunities which will enable elected leaders working in Indigenous communities to gain the knowledge and skills required to enhance their leadership roles in serving their communities.

Option 1 - Virtual / In-Person

The CIHRP Virtual/In-Person Program requires applicants to attend four intensive weekend sessions which will be held at various venues across Canada.

The CIHRP community cohort brings AFOA Canada to a specific community or organization to deliver four intensive sessions. This organizing community or organization can chose to have this cohort delivered via virtual or in-person options.

Option 2 - PLAR Program

(Prior Learning and Assessment Recognition)

The CIHRP PLAR requires applicants to submit a Portfolio that will successfully demonstrate through the assessment process that all CIHRP competencies have been met or exceeded.

Option 3 - Online Program

The CIHRP Online Program requires the completion of 10 online courses:

      1. CIHRP 1-5 for a CIHRP Certificate; and
      2. CIHRP 6-10 for a CIHRP Diploma

Fees for the In-Person Program

The non-refundable application fee is $500 for members, $575 for non-members and is required at the time of application. This fee is used to cover costs for administration, review and approval of applications.

The Program fee is $1,500 for members and $1,750 for non-members per Session. The Program fee includes costs for tuition, all course materials, refreshments (morning and afternoon), course facilitators and guest speakers, the facility and closing ceremony with certificate. (Please note that breakfast, lunch and supper are not included.)

The CIHRP Certification Exam will be scheduled at a specific time.
