Two-Day Workshops
Monday, March 4, 2024 and Tuesday, March 5, 2024
The Effective Planning, Creation and Implementation of Your Trust two-day workshop has been developed to raise awareness, enhance understanding, and assist community and organizational leaders and senior officials in learning how to effectively plan, create, and implement the most appropriate trust structure and investment strategy to best meet the needs of the community or organization.
The learning objectives are intended to build the necessary knowledge and skills of those interested in better understanding financial accounting in Canada, including its purpose and use of financial information and other foundational concepts.
This two-day workshop is a key part of helping our members with their estates and trusts.
Day 1
Understanding & Educating our Members on the importance behind having a Will, Power of Attorney & Personal Health Directive
The first day of the workshop will give you a basic understanding of Wills, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives and basic estate planning tools; so you have peace of mind that you have taken care of your family and urge your membership to be prepared.
Day 2
Understanding the obligations and benefits behind setting up and administering Personal & Nation Trust
The second day of the workshop will give you a strong understanding of Inter Vivos Trust (A Trust in your Will and a First Nation Trust). There remains a lot of confusion and miss information on this very important topic that not only affects us personally but effects our community; come gain a solid base to go forward or if you are new, a great start on understanding Trusts.
One-Day Workshops

Indigenous organizations have the opportunity of developing their own community members to become leaders and partners in their success. Capacity-building is a measurable improvement in an organization’s ability to fulfill its mission through a blend of sound management, strong training and development, and dedication to assessing and achieving results. Capacity-building is an effort to strengthen organizational structure and outcomes. This workshop will provide a template that will support your employees along their performance management experience.
This workshop on First Nations Community Governance is directed toward elected Indigenous leaders and Senior Administration staff working in First Nation communities. It has been designed to provide a general overview of Indigenous governance concepts, as well as many practical examples and best practices to assist elected Indigenous leaders and administration staff in better understanding the roles and responsibilities of the governing body, administration and community members. Topics covered include: role of Indigenous governing bodies; local Indigenous governance structures and issues; principles of good governance; a First Nations perspective; the power of Chief and Council; tools for council meeting management; and a refresher on policy.
This workshop will aim to demonstrate the series of steps needed to develop a Community Engagement Plan that is based on cultural humility, cultural safety, and community values. Participants will be provided with mini-case studies of successful engagement processes in Indigenous communities along with tips, templates, tools, work plans, key “Do’s and Don’ts” and a helpful outline for Development of a Community Engagement Plan This module will be of interest to those responsible for engagement initiatives in their community (i.e: Directors/Managers, Program Administrators, Financial Officers, Project Coordinators, Communication Officers, Chief and Council, Policy Officers, etc.).
While effective leadership is the most critical factor in the success of an organization, community or business, it is a concept that covers a diverse array of meanings. Effective Leadership explores the concepts of leadership, management, and governance and the relationship and interdependence that exists among them. Participants will build valuable new skills: learn about the core leadership skills that are the foundation of effective leadership including strategy, action and results; and learn about adaptive leadership skills which represent the qualities that great leaders have in common including emotional intelligence, organizational justice, character and development. You will learn about yourself and how to better lead others in providing service and support to organizations, boards, and communities.
One-Day Workshops

Understanding how to compensate your employees is critical to the success of Indigenous organizations. Utilizing analytics and data to support and inform those decisions ensures you are implementing best practice along the way, measuring behaviours of your people and analyzing them to improve people and organizations performance. Learning to implement these practices will help you attract and retain Indigenous employees through competitive strategies specific to Indigenous organizations. Learn how to create a visible dashboard with your most important metrics.
Effective governance is essential to the success of First Nations communities. In this workshop tools have been developed that elected leaders can use in performing their leadership functions. Topics covered include: orientation and transition of newly elected leaders; elected leaders mandate and administrative priorities; knowing your community history and context; organizational and community issues; moving towards prosperity; governing beyond the Indian Act; and others.
This workshop will help build a foundational understanding of project financing and delivery principles for major infrastructure projects. Students will gain fundamental knowledge and understanding of project requirements and how to define a project to recognize feasibility of investment.
This workshop is intended to be for individuals with responsibility for IT, in Indigenous communities, who do not have formal training from a college or university program. The workshop introduces the fundamentals behind how an organization should plan for disasters and how to recover from such unforeseen events quickly.
