Membership Code
WHEREAS Bylaw No. 1 of the AFOA Canada and AFOA Canada Chapter Regulations specify that a Membership Code shall be adopted by AFOA Canada and each and every AFOA Chapter;
AND WHEREAS AFOA Canada has consulted with each and every AFOA Chapter for purposes of developing the Membership Code as recommended by the Chapter Task Force Final Report;
AND WHEREAS AFOA Canada and the Chapters wish to adopt a Membership Code that may be fairly and consistently applied across Canada;
AND WHEREAS AFOA Canada and the Chapters wish to adopt a Membership Code that sets out the rights, privileges and obligations of each category of member, application procedures and applicable admission criteria;
NOW THEREFORE, the following Membership Code shall be effective as of the 31st day of December, 2004 as may be amended from time to time;

- MEMBERSHIP. Membership in AFOA Canada shall be limited to those persons who in the opinion of AFOA Canada satisfy the criteria set out in the Membership Code and adhere to the Goals. Applicants may appeal a decision of AFOA Canada to refuse membership to the Board within thirty (30) days of receipt of such notice and the decision of the Board shall be final and binding and there shall be no further appeal therefrom.
- CONDITIONS OF MEMBERSHIP. It is a condition of membership in AFOA Canada that an applicant must submit an application to join the AFOA Chapter located in the geographic boundaries of where the applicant resides or where a AFOA Chapter exists.
- MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES. A person may only apply for one of the categories of membership set out in Appendix “A”provided such person satisfies the criteria set out therein.
- TERMINATION MEMBERSHIP. A Member shall be required to resign in the following circumstances:

4.1 A vote of three-quarters (3/4) of the Members voting at an Annual Meeting or a Special Meeting, provided that any such Member has been granted an opportunity to be heard at such meeting; or
4.2 Upon resolution of the Board, if in the opinion of AFOA Canada the Member has failed to comply with the Goals, applicable By-Laws and/or the Membership Code, provided that any such Member has been granted an opportunity to be heard at such meeting; or
4.3 Upon receipt of written notice, if the Member fails to pay any lawful monies owing to AFOA Canada and/or a Chapter within the prescribed time period.

- RESIGNATION. A Member may at any time resign as a Member by serving written notice to that effect upon AFOA Canada and upon discharging any lawful obligation or liability which is standing upon the books of AFOA Canada at the time of such notice.
- APPLICATION PROCESS. A person shall submit an application form as set out in Appendix “B”to AFOA Canada with the applicable application fees (“Application”).

6.1 Upon receipt of an Application, AFOA Canada shall process the Application for membership in AFOA Canada. If applicable, AFOA Canada shall process the application for membership in the designated AFOA Chapter and shall notify such AFOA Chapter of such application within thirty (30) days. The applicable AFOA Chapter shall provide AFOA Canada with its consent for such applicant to join the AFOA Chapter within five (5) days and AFOA Canada shall forthwith transfer to the AFOA Chapter Membership Fees to AFOA Chapter.
6.2 AFOA Canada shall invoice for membership renewal notices to members of AFOA Canada and AFOA Chapters ninety (90) days prior to December 31st.

- TRANSFER BETWEEN AFOA CHAPTERS. Upon application to AFOA Canada a Member may transfer to another AFOA Chapter in accordance with the Membership Application Form attached as Appendix “C”.
- AFOA CANADA MEMBERSHIP FEES. A Member shall pay the AFOA Canada Membership Fees in the manner specified in the Application. Membership Fees may be prorated at time of application.
- AFOA CHAPTER FEES. A Member shall pay the applicable AFOA Chapter Membership Fees in the manner specified in the Application. Membership Fees may be prorated at time of application.
- MEMBERSHIP REGISTER. AFOA Canada shall maintain a register of Members for AFOA Canada and all AFOA Chapters. A Member shall be deemed to be a Member in good standing if such Member is registered in the register of Members, is compliant with the Membership Code and is not in arrears in respect of any lawful monies owing to AFOA Canada and/or Chapter.
