More Indigenous Canadians to obtain the distinction of attending Harvard Business School
A unique partnership between the AFOA Canada and the Harvard Business School (HBS) will see forty AFOA Canada members from across Canada attend and obtain an Executive Program certificate from the Harvard Business School in Massachusetts, USA, from May 9 to 13, 2022. There will also be other Indigenous participants in the program from the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.
The program, titled Leading People and Investing to Build Sustainable Communities, utilizes the HBS case study method to teach participants how to effectively understand investment tools, products, and practices…and how to use them in a community context. It covers four key pillars of effective community investment through essential governance practices, entrepreneurial finance, negotiations and change management.
“We are excited to offer this HBS program to our AFOA Canada members and collaborated with the HBS faculty to create a relevant program focused on where Indigenous communities are today on building social and economic prosperity for their community members,” says Terry Goodtrack, President, and CEO of AFOA Canada. “While the world-class faculty deliver the program at the HBS, the biggest benefit participants will receive is raising their ceilings on what is possible.”
One of the participants, Leanne Bellegarde, Q.C., Chief Executive Officer of Akawe Technologies and a First Nation member of the Peepeekisis Cree Nation in southern Saskatchewan, said, “I am excited to attend the program to discuss and learn how we can further unleash the economic contributions of Indigenous people in North America and increase prosperity and well-being in all of our communities.”
